Loot's main attraction was a bank with budgeting for students, but our live solution wasn't working. I did a deep dive into how it could be done better to help students achieve their #LOOTGOALS

Discovery
We knew our metrics were not where we wanted them regarding usage of our hero feature. To quantify all aspects of the issue we conducted Usability tests with students and non-students alike, did a UX audit with some of our Designer friends in the industry. I also dusted off a research document conducted by an agency and re-analysed the data presented there.
Strategy & Exploration
I've learnt that our distinct different types of personas would approach budgeting very differently. Although we were catering to Savvy savers, they're not the ones that are asking for the most help or tools at this formative age, financially speaking. I put together a user segment deck and presented in front of the entire company during one of our town halls.
This helped shift our focus into a more focussed direction prioritising seamless and effortless budgeting for our least financially savvy users. Auto-budgeting if you will.

End result
After a fun ride of exploring many approaches to budgeting, categorising spending and introducing friendly emojis to showcase progress of a student's financials we landed on a lighter but still impactful restyle and redesign of the home screen experience.
Below you'll find the final results for the transactions screen and budgeting circle. I'm particularly happy with that budgeting circle as it was in dire need of a facelift.
